(July 11, 2024) – Contrary to suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s repeated claims of being homeschooled by a certain “Techer Rubilyn” and growing up on a farm, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian revealed on Wednesday that the mayor attended Grace Christian High School in Quezon City from 2000 to 2003 — the same school he attended.
“Apparently si Guo Hua Ping o si Alice Guo [ay] hindi lumaki sa farm. Hindi rin siya home schooled. Hindi siya homeschooled ni Rubilyn,” said Sen. Gatchalian.
The lawmaker presented Mayor Guo’s school records from 2000 to 2003 to the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality.
“Nag-aral siya sa parehas kong school, sa Grace Christian High School for Grades 1, 2, and 3. Year 2000 to 2003. Noong natatandaan ko sa school po namin, wala pong farm po doon, puro building,” he added.
Sen. Gatchalian said that Guo’s enrollment forms included an alien birth certificate of registration that matched documents held by the Bureau of Immigration (BI), while her English-translated birth certificate from China indicated that her father is Jian Zhang Guo and her mother is Wen Yi Lin.
Mayor Guo did not attend the Senate hearing due to trauma and after receiving death threats, according to a letter submitted by her camp to Sen. Risa Hontiveros’ committee on Tuesday.
“Sabi sa letter of explanation, not mentally fit, nakakahiya naman po sa may tunay na mental healthcondition. Seryosong usapin ang mental health at di dapat ginagamit na dahilan para magsinungaling,” said Sen. Nancy Binay.
“You took advantage of our brittle regulatory system. Our system may be brittle, but it is not broken. Sisingilin ka. Sinisingil ng sambayanan si Mayor Guo,” Sen. Hontiveros meanwhile, warned Guo.
Following the citation of the mayor in contempt, Sen. Hontiveros will request Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to issue an arrest order against her and seven others to ensure their attendance on the next Senate hearing.
Once the warrant is issued by the Senate, the Immigration will have grounds to issue a hold departure order to prevent them from leaving the country.
