(February 10, 2022) – Several social media pages are posting videos of the crowd allegedly shouting their support for Bongbong Marcos Jr. during the proclamation rally of Vice President Leni Robredo in Naga, Camarines Sur.
These videos are edited.
CLAIM:
Several Facebook pages, which are openly supportive of the late dictator’s son, posted an edited video to make it appear as if the people who attended Robredo’s kickoff rally were shouting “BBM” or the initials of Marcos. Afterward, Robredo was heard saying in Bicolano, “Awat na. Huwag na magpasaway.”
“Bbm bbm ang sigaw ng mga bicolano Paano ba yan,” wrote one Facebook page that posted the video. To justify the clip, the same page posted another video sourced from TikTok where the people were allegedly shouting “Marcos kami.”
RATING: ALTERED
FACT:
Robredo, an independent presidential candidate in the 2022 elections, launched her campaign at Plaza Quezon in her hometown on Tuesday. She was accompanied by her running mate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan and their senatorial bets, including some of their guest candidates.
Sen. Richard Gordon was among the guest candidates in the proclamation rally. Robredo heaped praises on the seasoned lawmaker for his bravery and determination to fight corruption, citing the legislative probe on Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation.
It was after this introduction that the public can be heard shouting.
But contrary to the edited videos, the crowd was not expressing support for Marcos. In the original video, the people were heard shouting, “Ipasok si Dick.”
Eto kuha sa phone ko mismo. Walang BBM supporter sa rally. Yung mga pinapakalat ng mga trolls ay edited.. PAKINGGAN NYO ANG SINISIGAW NAMIN SA VIDEO.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Marcos stands as the frontrunner in surveys while Robredo remains in the second spot.
Spreaders of disinformation have continually targeted Robredo, as independent fact-checkers confirmed that she has been the biggest victim of fake news since January. Marcos, on the other hand, has benefited from misleading claims since many of the posts seek to promote him.
Since 2016, Robredo and Marcos have been staunch political rivals as they faced off in the vice presidential race. Marcos repeatedly contested Robredo’s victory but was unable to prove his allegations of anomaly, with the Presidential Electoral Tribunal unanimously junking his case last year. He filed another appeal.
While the edited videos could be seen as a snarky joke, the Facebook pages sharing them are not satirical, as most of their posts are serious materials about promoting Marcos.
As of writing, the edited videos posted by BlackBirde alone have garnered a combined 39,800 reactions, 8,700 comments, and 17,800 shares.
