(January 3, 2022) – Vice President Leni Robredo’s flagship project has gathered P520 million and partnered with around 370 organizations as of December 2021 to carry out services to rural areas and marginalized sectors, marking a significant feat after five and a half years in office.
According to the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Robredo, along with numerous partners, has raised more than P82 million for healthcare services under the “Angat Buhay” program. One of the major projects they carried out was the construction of a mental health facility in San Remigio, Cebu.
The OVP also continues to conduct health caravans, free surgery, and dental check-ups in urban areas to make the services more accessible. Hygiene kits and toilet bowls are also distributed to communities that have no access to clean toilets.
Robredo, an independent presidential candidate in the 2022 elections, launched the “Angat Buhay” initiative to link private organizations with poor communities, providing healthcare, food security, education, empowerment, livelihood, and rural development.
Under this, the OVP has also constructed almost P123 million worth of education-related infrastructures such as classrooms and dormitories. Students in Zamboanga del Norte, Bukidnon, Negros Oriental, and two towns in Eastern Samar were granted dormitories to make it easier for them to attend classes. Youth training seminars were also conducted.
In addition, the OVP has created efforts for sustainable livelihood, with P15.4 million worth of urban projects and P47.3 million worth of assets for farmers and fisherfolk.
Close to P20 million was also allocated to housing and resettlement projects, including those built in Marawi City. It also helped transfer families from “danger zones” to safer areas of residence.
Robredo has touted that despite her office’s limited budget from the government, they have delivered much-needed services to Filipinos, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Robredo’s critics, especially on social media, have constantly accused her of not doing anything.
The OVP has also received P146.8 million worth of donations for disaster relief since Robredo took office, handing out P85.2 million worth of assistance to areas affected by calamities.
Robredo is one of the first officials who responded to the needs of provinces hit by Typhoon Odette. She also conducted an on-ground inspection to assess the extent of damages.
