(August 8, 2024) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) touted the decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) to freeze the assets and properties of fugitive Apollo Quiboloy on Thursday.
DOJ secretary Boying Remulla said that the order demonstrated the resolve of the CA to uphold the law. The Anti-Money Laundering Council filed the petition.
“We hail the court’s bold action in freezing the properties and restraining the financial muscle of fugitive Quiboloy who has been constantly mocking the justice system by evading arrest and our courts of law,” said Remulla in a media release.
The CA issued a freeze order against the bank accounts and properties of Quiboloy and his companies, Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Sonshine Media Network International, and Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. earlier today.
It also covered the assets of his cohorts, Maria Teresita Dandan, Helen Padaduan Panilag, Paulene Canada, Cresente Canada, Ingrid Canada, Sylvia Camañes, Jackielyn Roy, Alona Metalla Santander, and Marlon Bongas Acobo.
“The freeze order is just one step which has somewhat provided hope for truth and justice,” added Remulla.
In the 48-page resolution, the CA justified the freeze order, citing the suspects’ alleged involvement in human trafficking, sexual abuse, child abuse, fraud, and conspiracy, among other crimes under the laws of the Philippines and the United States.
“This Court finds it appropriate and judicious to issue a 20-day freeze order as prayed for by petitioner over said bank accounts, including all other related or materially-linked accounts, and the real and personal properties enumerated in the ex-parte petition,” said the decision.
The self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” remains at large amid two arrest warrants for child abuse and human trafficking.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reiterated that Quiboloy is still in the country amid the allegations of his departure. The PNP has been heavily criticized for failing to locate Quiboloy.
