(May 25, 2025) — Pres. Bongbong Marcos delivered a message of encouragement to more than 15,000 student-athletes participating in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa, urging them to dream big and reminding them that they are already champions.
Marcos said, addressing athletes from 18 regions, the National Academy of Sports, and Philippine schools overseas gathered in Ilocos Norte for the week-long sporting event from May 25 to 30.
With this year’s theme, “Nagkakaisang Kapuluan,” the Palarong Pambansa highlights unity among Filipino youth.
Marcos emphasized that more than medals and trophies, the true value of the games lies in building discipline, friendship, and the joy of sport—whether in victory or defeat.
“Tandaan ninyo: Ang taong lumalaban, hindi natatalo. Losers are those who fail to try. Winners are those who try, and maybe they fail, but then try again and do not stop trying until they win and succeed.”
He also praised world-renowned Filipino athletes such as Manny Pacquiao, Hidilyn Diaz, Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio, EJ Obiena, and Alex Eala, describing them as living proof that talent, dedication, and support can lead to global success.
This year’s Palaro features 34 sports disciplines, including para-sports and demonstration events.
Among them are 24 regular sports like athletics, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Weightlifting debuts as a demo sport, while kickboxing, girls’ football, and girls’ futsal are being held as exhibition events.
Para-athletes will compete in goalball, bocce, para-swimming, and para-athletics.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for May 31, but the message from the President resonates beyond the games.
