February 25, 2025 – Familiar names shone once again at the 2025 7-Eleven cross-country mountain bike challenge, as Emmanuel Dave Montemayor and Shane Quinoñez pedaled to victory in the men’s and women’s overall categories, respectively.
Battling through the rugged terrain, steep climbs, and exhilarating descents of Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal over the weekend, Montemayor clinched his third straight title, clocking 1:47:06 to narrowly edge out his good friend James Carl Dela Cruz who finished at 1:47:07.
Quiñonez also rose to the occasion, powering through the grueling 40 km single-track, cross-country mountain bike race. The Philippine national cycling team member displayed remarkable endurance, crossing the finish line in 2:12:40 to narrowly defeat teammate Shagne Yao (2:12:41) and earn her back-to-back title.
“Sobrang saya po sa puso na nagpe-payoff po iyong hardwork ko. Mahirap kumawala kasi sa unahan mata-traffic na naman then luluwag, tapos traffic na naman. So ang inisip ko na lang, sige, kunin na lang natin by sprint. So iyon po ang ginawa ko,” Quiñonez told reporters before receiving her P25,000 cash prize alongside fellow winner Montemayor.
As she sets her sights on the Asian Continental Championship (ACC) in China this April, the 23-year old revealed that she will not be competing in the Japan Mountain Bike Cup in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture next month as she failed to secure her visa.
“Hindi po ako nakakuha ng visa. So maybe sa next race na lang which is sa June yata mayroong Yawatahama,” she said.
This leaves Yao as the Philippines’ lone representative in Japan for now.
“International riders na po ‘yung makakalaban natin doon. Asian countries and hindi ko lang sure kung mayroong mga European kasi noong 2023 may European riders na nag-join,” the three-time national champion shared.
Completing the men’s podium, Jerico Rivera posted a time of 1:48:29, while Adel Pia Sendrijas secured third place in the women’s overall with a time of 2:16:07.
In the 16 to 18 male age group, Cleo Dale Morales emerged as the champion, bringing home the ₱7,000 cash prize, while Laurent Briel Ballog secured second place with ₱5,000. Jan Alfred Dominic Ong rounded out the podium, taking home ₱3,000.
Philippine Seven Corporation President and CEO Jose Victor Paterno expressed immense pride and satisfaction over the success of the event.
“Seeing the growing community of riders who challenge themselves year after year is truly inspiring. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported this event, our participants, sponsors, and venue partners. As we gear up for our 10th year, expect an even bigger and more exhilarating experience,” Paterno expressed.
